Matthew and I are excited to announce that we are leaving on May 10, 2016 to travel the world! We are tentatively planning to travel for about 9 to 12 months, but we are keeping our plans open and flexible for now.
Long-term travel is something that we have been talking and dreaming about for a couple of years, but we weren’t sure that we would ever actually make it happen. As much as we really wanted to do it, the timing never felt right. Some recent changes at Matthew’s work made it the perfect time for him to wrap up what he was doing and leave. For me, the decision to leave my job was incredibly difficult because I absolutely love the work that I do and the community that I have built here in Franklin. Ultimately, though, I knew I would regret passing up this opportunity.
So we are packing up and storing all our belongings, moving out of our apartment, and getting on a one-way flight out of the United States with one bag and one backpack each! Our first stop will be Ljubljana, Slovenia, a place I have long-dreamed of visiting. We will be staying in an Airbnb apartment for 3 weeks and exploring as much as we can of that small but beautiful country. The rest of our itinerary will be updated as we go on the “Our Route” page.
We will initially be living off of savings, but we both have projects we want to work on while we travel that could eventually start earning us some money. One of my projects will be this blog which will serve as a record of our trip that we can look back on later and a way for our friends and family to follow along with our journey.
I’ll be posting more details soon about the why and how of what we’re doing. In the meantime we will be wrapping things up at work, checking off tasks from our crazy-long to-do list, and counting down days until we step onto that plane. Matthew and I are incredibly grateful for this opportunity, and we can’t wait to see what adventures lie ahead!
